It’s now 15 hours till first release!
batten down the hatches! Tons of information to come. If your friends are not on the mailing list – there is no better time to get them on board! I will be getting my moneys worth on this mailing list with new information in the next few days.
Heres comes the rain!
Tek-9 (Hardcore Movie)
[Helios] “This is the second community made movie by Paul “agour” Richardson of Reason Gaming. After a very cool sniper movie he now highlights the hardcore mode of this game in a nice sneak peak into the game which is released October 9th in the UK. “
“Section 0:30-0:33 shows that kamikaze knife attacks tend not to be too successful in this game! Very ruthless takedown by the AI on show there”
Personally this video to me screams CS:S/Halo due to it being a simple video, little structure, how the person plays the game, what the filmer chooses to show us in the video and the light blasts and speed up blur. Reminds me of the ‘1337 kill3r’ knife stabbing videos. Regardless of that it’s a ok video there are some key features: a gun fights, a suicidal knife run against a AI and javelin launch and death camera. On the plus side after (what I think was a poor animation of) some explosive gas tanks blowing up. You get to see a marine become Marine soup to me Highlight of the whole video. Just ignore the animations

Looking for news? See Fourms
Well you came to the right place. Unfortunately things in the last few days are going too quick for anyone to nail down and so much information is being poured out by fans that you would spend all day just keeping up. Being the site we are, we are not here just to farm hits, and we make no profit on ads or anything – anything we do make though referrals goes back into community development.
So as a public service annoucement to you, if you haven’t allready done so make sure your on the official fourms. Being signed up to the mailing list and toolbar or watching tiwtter will also help. These blog style posts are being negleicted due to the large volume of data and my poor webskills making everything I type much more uglyer then my e-mails, which I barely have time to send out some days. I know you guys/gals rely on the news from this site. I gladly take the troll hit to find the news for you, I just don’t have the time with this much volume to maintain 3 outlets for news.
So basicly troll the fourms or wait on the e-mails. However if you want every speck of news, you’ll need to be on the fourms for the next few days because as noted and the reason for this blog post – there is just so much. Take this thread for a exsample.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (OFP:DR) System Requirements

Some of you may have seen some specs posted around the Internet for the PC version of the game. I’ve been informed that these are not currently correct and are based on old un-optimized versions of the PC code.
Once the PC code has been fully optimized, we will be releasing the definitive minimum & recommended specs.
Expect the final requirements to be lower than what you might have previously seen.

Intel – Geek Out – Interview and Particle Emitter Demo
Posted moments ago by Helios was a link to a Intel sponsored interview with a flash tech simulator. This simulator shows you how Particle emitters work in games, and allows you to make your own explosion. It is really quite the fun and has a good level of depth.
http://OperationFlashpoint2.org is looking to see your submissions, please post in the comments in this news post your creations – we want to see them!
In this exclusive interview with Intel Game On, Codemasters’ Andrew Dennison, Rendering Group Lead on Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising explains why, if you want realism, you don’t just need a capable graphics card, you need a powerful CPU.
The Geekout notes a second interview. The next interview will be in regards to the very important AI path finding code.
The questions have been reposted for archival purposes below.

To “Get a whet appetite” Helios also posted 2 new screenshots.

Battle of the God’s
Well it seems as if Sion has yet again been taking our feedback seriously and the hardcore mode has been altered to the effect of godliness. To see the news please visit here.
Snippit: “You lot are a bunch of masochists but, you’ve got it; the hardcore mode in Operation Flashpoint will contain no HUD/UI elements at all other than radio chatter subtitles. That’s right, no crosshair, no compass, no gun or ammo displays…Nothing…
There will be no objective markers, no bleed meter, no direction of fire indicator, no enemy location highlights and no damage indicators. Nothing!
To show you what we mean, here’s an example for you all taken with the new hardcore settings.”

OFDR featured on Gamespot show ‘On the Spot’
Thanks to IronCreed for the find. Interview and gameplay starts at about 7 minutes in.
Commentary: This preview is much better you can see a far greater skill in the person playing. The animations look not to bad, and it looks very good for a console game. AI is still horrifically slow and incapable of hitting the side of a barn. This video gives another look at the newest level we have seen everyone play – the one Gamestar.de really hammered out (even though Gamestar played with zippo skill). They talk about the 2 MP modes – Deathmatch and unbalanced Deathmatch (assault & defend). The Map for commands looks very good – other then that it’s the same old, and looks good for console even if its going to be 4 vs 4 MP (2 vs 6 – unbalanced?)

Austrailian OFP:DR release date infomation update
[Helios]
“The official release date for Australia is still the 8th and this is what we have been communicating to stores. However I’ve been informed that as it takes time to ship the game to the stores some retailers might have the game on the shelves a few days after. This is probably why EB are playing it safe and saying the 15th.
Best thing to do would be to just keep calling them asking if it’s in yet.
Sorry I can’t be more specific. “

Posted a few hours ago was the first look video at Co-op Gameplay. It is a excerpt from the longer GameStar.de video and no one in the community seems to have access to. This video is two minutes long, the full version can be found here (pending you have a premium account): Gamestar.de – The video shows combat assaulting a small unwalled base in tall grass. The overall impression from the comments has so far been fairly negative. This video shows medic healing, weapon sway and artillery call in. There has been some screen grabs photos uploaded as well and they are found below.

OFP2 Promo from the press’ prespective – Fort Knox
Posted on IRC moments ago from the forums. Is a inside look of OFP: DR from the presses perspective at “Fort Knox”. Weirdest press conference I’ve ever seen. It starts with a fake door guard, crazy guy decked out in camo and stickers and some silly stickers on a TV and shirts. Weird styled building with what looks like a super adhoc meeting room. The video ends with a airsoft match. Hopefully it wins over the media

New Community “Picture Album Tab” + Picture of Helios.
Found by danthom a few moments ago is a change by CM to the forums. They have now added a “Picture Album Tab“. I presume this is the work of Satine as she already has a flickr account, and seems to be a person that likes to bridge the gap of Corporation and Community – as noted also by the blog. I don’t know if it’s her or her job. Regardless, Two of the new pictures found are relevant to us.
First found is a Picture of 1st1 – French Community Manager for OFP2 (or at least was, don’t know if still is).
Second is of Sun God Helios working hard – or at the very least staring intensely at a screen. This is how he get’s the big bucks. Look stressed and make it look like your going all out. For all I know he might be reading the fourms or dealing with one of my (Sir. Polaris) ‘Kind IM conversations’. Both is enough to give some one a early retirement.
Show your support to Helios!
That being noted I am sending out a general call for fans of OFP2 to share some love for Helios by filling his photo with random comments and or spam – What ever you do best. Show your love by making him the be dev in the office with the biggest fanbase. It’s the least we can do for all the dedication he gives us.
Make it happen Community Heroes! Post a comment on Helios’ Page. Lets push it to 20 at least.

Upcoming release date announced
Helios just announced that the official release date (Yes, A date, not a period) will be announced on the upcoming Friday, in the early morning, to be precise. Helios also told us there’ll be a new video, showing the Armoury of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Helios also promised us a brand new set of screenshots. To “Get a whet appetite” Helios also posted 2 new screenshots.
PLA – Type95 self propelled anti-aircraft gun, viewed through binoculars
US – Abrams M1A2 main battle tank, with AH1Z Super Cobra attack helicopter in air
Full size screenshots can (of course) be found on Flickr.

USMC & PLA Camo Update
Released by Helios shortly ago.
“After concerns were raised by numerous members of the community that the USMC troops had incorrectly coloured Modular Tactical Vest’s, the development team have amended the colour to brown to reflect what is currently in use by the USMC.
We have decided to keep the USMC Spec Ops MTV’s as green, to provide some distinction between them and regular USMC troops.
See below for a full rundown of the final USMC & PLA Camo Patterns and body armour.”

Freelook and TrackIR clarification
From Helios,
——–
First of all, my apologies for the confusion this may have caused.
After speaking to the dev team, I’ve had something clarified to me that invalidates what I said earlier about the definitive no freelook and no TrackIR statement.
It turns out that whilst there is no freelook and no TrackIR for infantry, these features will be available for vehicles.
So to summarize:
- Infantry – No Freelook for all platforms, No TrackIR
- Vehicles – Freelook supported for all platforms for pilot, driver, commander, passenger etc, TrackIR supported

No Leaning, Freelook or TrackIR in Operation Flashpoint
Some Unfortunate news from Helios.
Sorry to disappoint some of you, but OFP: DR will not include leaning or support TrackIR.
In fairness OFP1 did not have leaning either. However this poor news for the tactical realism crowd. This means there will be no leaning around trees, walls, defences. All combat will require you to be exposed at the very least your upper body. While this will not be a game killer, it will surly change the dynamics of combat and most likely alienate some of OFP2’s more diehard fans.
It is unfortunate to see such changes to the OFP1 formula. All signs however point to a more engaging FPS experience. However it is the belief of this writer, that OFP1’s greatness stemmed by it’s functionally and the little features.
Little features took what was a open world FPS and turned into a rich killing ground. It’s unfortunate to see, that many of OFP1’s great features will not be in OFP2. We can only presume that there is a issue holding back, leaning and freelook. I would presume texture tearing and perhaps the difficulty of teaching the AI how/where to lean from around cover. I don’t really know. All I do know is APC rides and Helicopter rides are going to be far less enjoyable.
*Freelook refers to Free movement of the players players head from the body, not a spectator camera. I understand there can be some confusion with this term*

Helios emphasizes E3 demo isn’t final yet
Regarding the complains about the E3 video, Helios made a new news post where he writes:
– AI
– Bullet hit damage to player
– Number of hits enemy soldiers can take before dying
– Recoil on the weapons
– Camera shake when sprintingThese aspects of the game are still WIP, and work is being done over the summer to refine and balance these.
Helios also writes about the graphical aspect of the game:
– Muzzle flash maybe too large
– Smoke from large explosions doesn’t seem to linger for that long (~5 seconds)
Particle effects are not finalised yet, visually and optimisation wise
Helios also notes the game will be optimized through this summer.

New information from CM’s soundteam
Codemasters Soundteam has yet made more progress. They’re now recording one of the most interesting sound parts in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising; Weapon sounds.
The records where made on a normally quiet farm in Nashville, Tennessee back in November 2008. The Microphones for the recording where placed on 3 differend places, in order to record the sound at a certain distance.
Helios’ news thread about it also includes some pictures of the weapons that where recorded, This is Steven Austin, one of the weapon recorders:
Besides the pictures in Helios’ news thread, it also also includes information about which kind of weapons where recorded:
The collection covered all sorts of pistols, assault rifles, sub machineguns, Sniper Rifles and some other exotic weapons that whilst not suitable for OFP are certainly great to have in our library just in case.
Indoor recording is also covered by the news post. According to Helios, the indoor recording will make the game sound even more realistic.
Helios closes his post mentioning the game will have great benefits from the weapon recording.

Stuff.co.nz OFP:DR Preview
Stuff.co.nz has released an OFP:DR Preview, it can be read here.
In the preview, the journalists play the radar mission one that is already played by an high amount of game journalists.
According to the previewers, Nature is the true star in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The sounds sounds very realistic and convincing, and, even while the version their played is still a beta, the sounds already sound like it’s a final version of the game.
The article closes down with:
“A Gears of War or Killzone clone it is not. For PC owners, the real question here will be whether the numerous fans of the original can be convinced to put down ArmA 2 and sacrifice a bit of realism for something a little less intense.”
The article is located here.

3D Juegos – New spanish preview
Thanks to community member 1Mystic-G A new, spanish preview was found. The translation can be found here.
- According to the preview, Year 2009 will be known to gamers as “The year of the Dragon”. Realism and spectacle walk hand in hand in Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, according to the preview, and is a worthy competitor for ArmA 2.
- To cover large distances, vehicles are a must. however, sometimes you’d might prefer walking to stay unseen.
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will have to do with reduced graphics, compared with other shooters which where released recently. However, it’s definitely worth the sacrifice, since the realism will profiteer from it, and the size of the island as well.
The translated preview can be found here. The original post from 1Mystic-G can be found here

1UP Preview – Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising
A new preview has been found on One up.
First Paragraph:
Most military-themed games are either roller-coaster shooters (the Call of Duty franchise) or shooters with tactical elements (Rainbow Six); the original Operation Flashpoint fitted neither of those distinctions, as it was more of an “infantry in war” simulator. That is, instead of filling your screen with spectacle and flourish while leading you down a very deliberately-designed experience, Operation Flashpoint just placed you in the world with yourself, some gear, a mission objective, a detailed array of systems (movement, weapons, A.I., etc.) to consider, and the freedom to figure out how to fulfill your missions with your toolset. It was simultaneously hardcore, tense, unforgiving, and exhilarating at times. So while the original developers have moved on to the ArmA franchise, Codemasters is trying to recapture some of OF’s intense infantry-simulation magic with Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.

Tweakers.net – New Dutch preview found
Thanks to heroes member ubermachtig, a new dutch preview was found. The pages have been translated for you:
Page 1, Page 2, Page 3
The preview states a couple of important things:
- In the version they played, switching from easy to hard ONLY changed the HUD elements. The AI didn’t improve skill in any way.
- The first mission was relatively easy, the second one was pretty diffcult, and let the writer realised how deathly a single bullet was. He never used the restart button so much in a game
- Graphical aspect – Where ArmA 2 went down on dated engine techniques, Operation Flashpoint shows how to do everything better
- there where no graphical differences between the X-Box and the PC version, according to the writer

The [HD] German Preview video:
Both video’s came as a bit of a surprise. The First French video shows 5 full minutes of footage. The soldiers also speak with a little accent. In the special build mission, the squad is going to blow up a radar station, on a smaller island near the coast of Skira Island.

OFP2 Toolbar Review
This review is for the latest update of the OFP2 toolbar,
At first glance the original toolbar was quite plain but it did serve it’s purpose well, now the toolbar has finally been updated with a much better look with small tabs provided by Marxus and Sir. Polaris. On the far left of the page there should be showing Social pgs next to this there is a small dropdown box which then shows you all of the Social services for the flashpoint community.
Also there is a dropdown box on main links which then reveals all of the major community services that the community themselves have provided to the player base of operation flashpoint. The first link on the dropdown menu will provide you with a quick jump system to each main area of the forums and next you will find a group of locations which contain alot of information that can aid you with knowledge about the game itself. (Flickr, mailing system etc…)
The next section contains the community run pages such as OFP2.info and this page, also the last section has a link to the community server thread on the flashpoint forum. Finally much like the previous there is also a bar showing the most recent threads created/commented on in the flashpoint forum which provides you with a easy quick travel system to the most recent threads
If you wish to download the toolbar itself you can find it here.

The code is lifted as soon as Helios posts his information. I expect similar information to what was said on IRC. I presume we may see it better constructed and possibly expanded. So there is still hope of new information.

I would like to thank everyone whom came out, and remind everyone to remember the IRC Code!

Forums are down but IRC is up!
Not getting your fix of Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising communication, during this forum outage? Need some one to talk to? thinking about ending it all?
Never fear! The official OFP2 IRC never sleeps and never fails to provide. There as a backup and go general to area for offtopic and on topic communication. OFP2 IRC is a great area for socializing about OFP2.
Now with the outage it a perfect time to get in on the action – click here to launch a AJAX browser IRC in a new window. Come join your fellow OFP2 fans!
1:14PM EST Update:
The forums have returned to some. It seems that the message is a country related message on a time delay per user’s location. It’s not effected by PC time, so it’s presumed to use the IP’s host location. Regardless VIA Proxy you can view the forums, however it is not recommended you login via a proxy here.
PS: For those who may be new to IRC; Always Remember to check IRC when ever there is a event of any kind. There will always be people in IRC on events and most likely IRC will be the main area for comments and chat during the event..
1:43 EST
Having taken the risk and logged in, I thought I would share with you some of the noticable features while you wait for full connection to return.

Mibbit IRC Fixed
As you may know Mibbit is a great way to connect to IRC in networks where IRC is blocked, or not capable of being installed. Recently users of Mibbit have noticed errors like “Cannot Connect – Glined“, “Connection Terminated” or the Warning “Warning To many IP’s Connected from this host”. These errors and warnings are due to Gamesurges’ bot/clone protection trying to protect Gamesurge from single IP/Clients having more then 1-3 users/clones online at a time. Mibbit because it provides IRC though a website, Mibbit comes from a single IP. The previous limit for Mibbit was 50 users. This number I’ve been told has now expanded. However Mibbit is still not allowed unlimited IPs and will still kick out all users when the limit is reached.
To resolve this issue GameSurge has created a new IRC server on there network for Mibbit access. Don’t worry about it effecting your connection – IRC works on a interconnected relay system, where messages start one server and get sent to all servers. The only difference Mibbit users will see is perhaps faster performance and no more errors. So Happy chatting!
Below is news post from GameSurge with the the instructions and news post regarding the updating your Mibbit link to support the changes at GameSurge to the new IRC server for webclients.
New Chat Widget – 11/26/2008 – Posted by ThiefMaster
Since today we have something new for those of you who do not use a real IRC client or like to connect to GameSurge from school or work:
The mibbit IRC widget which replaces the Java applet on http://www.gamesurge.net/chat allows you to connect to GameSurge without using any ports but the regular http port (80) which is open almost everywhere. Just in case you prefer the Java applet, it is still available at http://www.gamesurge.net/javachat.For those who want to add the widget to their website: either you can link the one on the GameSurge site and pass channels via the URL (/chat/CHANNELNAME; e.g. /chat/gamesurge for #gamesurge or /chat/CHANNELNAME/DEFAULTNICKNAME) or you can embed the mibbit widget on your site. In this case you should set the server to webirc.gamesurge.net:6007 so people connect with their real IP (otherwise they might get glined for excessive connections).

New 500mb Video Inbound from GamesCom
Apparently our German comrad illuminator has got his hands on a 20min gameplay Video at around 4am EST. There is no sound and there is only German commentary. However it’s apparently nice stuff, a new mission and filmed in assisted gamemode.
It is apparently being uploaded. Illuminator had the following early comments:
- Yeah, there are buildings with more than one floors.
- Multi level destruction (player destroyed nearly a tower, the half still stands)
- If you die in the coop mode, your view switch to one of your team mates in third view
- If you got a headshot and it’s not possible to heal you, you will be reanimate when one of your team mates reach the next checkpoint (checkpoints are not available in Hardcore Gamemode)

Fear and anticipation
This new video seems to show some nice footage of the game itself and is split between gameplay and cinematics (According to that told to us by helios) although containing some problems such as the clouds moving too fast the game itself seems to have made a few improvements in the graphical department.
Of which are:
- Grass render distance improved.
- Glow around friendlies and enemies seems to have been removed.
Besides these we are hoping that CM (As shown before) will fix all of the issues present. Below is the video and below that is the thread to talk about the new video and possibly relay any issues regarding it also:

All New Video And Interview featuring Sion Lenton From IGN.
Today has seen a very quiet and mild activity within the OFP: DR Forum Community, Why you ask?
Early this morning a member of the community figaRo, informed us to a possibility along with Helios’s posts last week that there maybe New Previews, Interviews And Videos coming to us shortly.
We can satisfyingly confirm these statements thanks to IGN’s New Video And Interview released moments ago.
The Video boasts all new, never seen in-game explosive material named “Ground Battle”. The Interview featuring Sion Lenton, Codemasters executive producer boasts a good set of Questions and Answers.
Although these new media articles are released to much hype and debate, a unique feature to this video is the possibility of a pushed back release date. At the end of this video a release date of Autumn 2009 is displayed.

The Reticule Preview – Useful OFP2 Information!
Thanks to community member PhilipLarkin, A new Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising preview was found at www.thereticule.com. It’s a good read and definitely worth your time.
Keypoints in this review are:
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is very unforgiving, a single wrong step gets you killed
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will definitely be a more realistic games then casual shooters
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising’s AI is very, very smart
- Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising runs beautiful in it’s current state, and is well-optimized at this moment.
- Red barrels are found as an bugger to realism

FragLand Interview 13/08/09
Found today by Zensuji
– Can you tell us something more about the multiplayer? And about the Co-op mode?
There will be no offline multiplayer, nor an offline co-op mode. Online you can play the co-op mode with up to four friends.
This seems to indicate that there may be no LAN option in the game itself.
Edit:
Hi all,
It’s not often I post directly to the forums but I spotted this and wanted to stop you guys from worrying about this.
When Sion said no offline he meant no split screen. We are fully supporting LAN/System link on console as well as on PC for not only the single player co-op campaign but also the multiplayer PVP.
I hope this clears up this issue.
Thanks

“I didn’t like ArmA, and I never played the original Operation Flashpoint. Now that I’ve said that, you’ve either left because you’re a hardcore military sim fan, or you’ve stuck around because you’re a reasonable person who realizes that you’re about to read the thoughts of someone who probably doesn’t share your idea of fun. Or maybe I do, and you’ll share in my dismay at what I played when I recently went hands-on with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Two new ingame video’s
Two new in-game video’s have been released, One is from an German Preview, and one has been captured at the E3.
The [HQ] French E3 Video (Pretty long):
The [HD] German Preview video:
Both video’s came as a bit of a surprise. The First French video shows 5 full minutes of footage. The soldiers also speak with a little accent. In the special build mission, the squad is going to blow up a radar station, on a smaller island near the coast of Skira Island.
Helios also announced the grass detail distance can be changed by the user himself; you can find the announcement here

Sound team Q&A 07-07-2009
At approximately 09:36 AM: Helios got a list of replies to some questions the community had asked, the questions and answers are here and the discussion area is here.
Snippet:
Member: Staticks
Is all the sound effects for this trailer fake and prerecorded? By that, I mean are they recorded specifically to make this trailer feel more seamless and cinematic?Because I’m very very skeptical that the final game will have sound effects this good and realistic (e.g., the gentle shuffling of your weapon as you look down your scope, the hard footsteps on the grass, the heavy breathing after sprinting, and the good, appropriate-sounding voice acting of the commander shouting “enter that building” or “we need to fall back”)
I’m skeptical, because the sound effects sound way too good and seamless and realistic to be true. I haven’t heard sound effects this realistic even in COD games.”
“Everything you hear in this trailer is in-game assets. No additional weapons or ambiance was recorded specifically for this trailer. Incoming fire sounds like that in game, Foley (the movement of clothing and so on) is from the game. So when you raise your gun up to aim in game, you will hear that movement sound detail. IMO we haven’t perfected it yet, but we have put a lot of effort into the speech to try and make it sound natural and humanistic in-game. So although a lot of it is made from smaller parts it sounds like natural speech.”

This video is two minutes long, the full version can be found here (pending you have a premium account): Gamestar.de – The video shows combat assaulting a small unwalled base in tall grass. The overall impression from the comments has so far been fairly negative. This video shows medic healing, weapon sway and artillery call in.

GamesCom informant on standby get your questions in
We just received word from a Citizen Kained that he is a exhibition stand designer and im on a job at Gamescom in Koln. He tell us about him self and follows into “So, if you have a question or want vid footage of something I can probably get it. I only have my nokia N95 here so footage may not be too good”. Heres your opportunity to get your questions out. He then goes on to tell us about the game
“The game itself is very slick, the aiming / firing feels like youve got to be quite accurate and doesnt feel arcadey at all… however it does feel more fun than ARMA and a quicker pace. They only have the single player mode here but overall I think its something to get excited about.”

All New OFP:DR Interview With Clive Lindop
Many thanks to Baast from the Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Forums for finding this new arcticle, courtesy of videogamers.com.
While there are no new screen shots, there is a lengthy interview with Clive Lindop. The interview contains the answers to questions that have been floating around for a while now. The two that jumped out the most were about the future DLC for the X-Box 360, an official response as to why ‘2′ was removed from the title, and news on the current status of the game, as well as new videos coming to us soon.
The article is a meaty four pages, and is well worth the read, as Clive gives some good, solid responses to some pretty tough questions.

CM to attend I36 – No OFP2 present
Codemasters will be at this years I-Series. There will be unfortunately no Operation Flashpoint 2 present. Helios however will be there and enslaved to “FUEL UP” gamers with slushies.
There is a reward for anyone whom can acquire a picture of Helios giving out slushies. There is also a general recommendation for people to go and camp out the CM I-booth and shout obscenities.
If anyone is going please remember to take pictures and post them on the forum, so the best ones can be uploaded to Flickr.

OFP: DR opens Xfire Group
To help promote the new game OFP: DR has opened up a agreement with xfire to make a promotion social group. To kick it off they are having a large video contest to show off xfire services while promoting the game though a large creation of media.
Since 2008-08-17 – I have be providing the Operation Flashpoint’s Official Forum’s Community Group. I was wondering why CM was not supportive of the idea when I approached them in the past about mass marketing for free though xfire. Suffice to say CM has finally got down to some basic marketing, and it’s good on them.
Our social group will continue to operate it will be much more moderated for trolls and spammers then the Xfire supported group. As well it’s restricted to community members only so, you have less random “will game have guns? cexk out my pixs!” messages in your IM. We are also planning a week of gaming, and it will involve spamming xfire with images and photos. I cannot offer a gaming rig as a prize but fame and glory and perhaps some swag might help.
Regardless check it out :

OFP:DR News Updates for Morning Aug/17/09
DEMO DELAYED
Just in from Helios is the announcement that the Demo is going to be “delayed”. Now only PC users post release will get a demo. It was noted this was done to improve quality of there final demo presentation.
[Helios]
Whilst we had originally planned to release a demo prior to launch, these plans have now had to be changed. The demo plans now are that we will now be releasing a single player and co-op demo on PC only post launch of the full game.
The main factor in this decision is to ensure that the full game gets 100% focus and attention before it’s released. We know how long many of you have waited for this game, and we want it to be as polished as it can possibly be for your enjoyment, and this is why the demo has had to be pushed back.
Readmore and comment at source.
Preview – Gamespot Updated MP Hands-On
Flanking the new video is a preview of the MP of OFP:DR. At a quick glance at the preview reads alot of CM’s marketing so use your judgment when reading, it seem alot of “hype”.
[Helios]
Just posted up now, and after reading the article it appears to be based on the console versions, though of course it is entirely possible to play 4v4 with AI teammates on the PC as well
http://us.gamespot.com/xbox360/actio…&mode=previews
“Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is about as far from run-and-gun action as you can imagine, and that slower pace will require a measure of patience on behalf of the player who will need to front-load lots of planning into a level before the bullets start flying. Those with a head for strategy, heads up: Dragon Rising is set for deployment on October 6.”

New multiplayer video
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know that the Multiplayer PVP video is due for release later today on Gamespot. It’s being uploaded by the US side of the site though, so if you are located in Europe you can expect it sometime late at night (Weds)/Early Morning (Thurs). I’m afraid I can’t really be more specific regarding what time Gamespot are going to upload it so my apologies for that.
Our US team will be making a post on Facebook when the video has been uploaded so make sure to keep an eye out for their update.
The video is also due for release tomorrow from 10am (UK Time) on www.flashpointgame.com
We also have a new multiplayer screengrab for viewers here:

I apologize for the delay in finding this review, This is the last (as we know it) preview for OFP2. We will continue to look but so far nothing is on the immediate radar. This review is similar to the others presented in the last 2 days.

Found today is another preview for OFP2. This review is similar to the previews seen thus far. Unique to this write up is a nice perspective that is clear of marketing and flowery writing. It speaks of urban combat and the more ‘arcade’ but dynamic nature of OFP2.

No more news or IRC Party for today.
Once again the OFP2 community is quick on getting the news, before it even been released. Today was supposed to be screens and a preview article. Both have been released ahead of the party schedule of 4pm EST [9pm GMT].
With this light there is no reason for continue with a release party as the release information is already known. There will still be OFP2 related discussion on IRC, just no party today. Below is a summery of the second half of the major media release.

Eurogamer – Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Preview
This morning gaming website “Eurogamer” have posted up their Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising preview, revealing plenty of new information regarding how the game is going to turn out.
Here’s a few choice quotes from the article:
“One of the group playing discovers the implications of this all too clearly, as his bold plan to drive erratically at the enemy, shooting wildly, doesn’t go down very well with his AI team. “**** this ****!” shouts one, before retreating and leaving our hapless player to deal with the aftermath of his rash actions alone.”
“When we finally get to sit down and see the latest PC build, the wisdom of this two-pronged control scheme becomes clear. The quick-command menu is great for reacting to the battlefield on the fly, the available options changing to reflect whatever you’re looking at”
“There’s no doubt that it’s an impressive undertaking. After he’s spent some time scampering around this corner of the island, Lenton calls up the map and zooms out so we can see the scale of the place. The area he’d been playing in covers maybe one square centimetre in the lower-right-hand corner. It’s vast, and full of procedurally generated elements to boot. Smoke and dust lingers rather than fading away.”

360 Gamer old trailer breakdown
This is just a heads up notice that Shaz73 has found a scan today of OFP2. Nothing really that all that important however this news feed aims to report on all OFP2 news unless is too rehashed or the source is extremely shady. This news feed will leave it to you to bring your own judgement on the news. This news posts is at the bottom line as to what makes it into the feed. If it was not for being a Game Mag, screens and the possibility of more content to come, this news would not have been published.
Enjoy.

Community Banner Exchange
Hello there,
I’m trying out a system that will allow clans though a ad system, to advertise them selfs while being advertised on other websites. My aim is to create a mutual visibility system by tweaking a ad system. I am testing it out as of today, and are looking for submissions of clan banners of size (486 x 60) Static no .gifs. As well as first adopters to test how how this product will work. The first test run will go a week and if successful will expand to a larger system.

OFP2 Tool Bar
I have struggled with ideas to help promote the community content I have built and the wealth of information that goes unnoticed in the forums.
I was pondering zipping up my bookmarks in my link bar in firefox and mailing it out to people. Then it occurred to me I remembered a old website that produces tool bars for free (It makes it’s money on you using the google search).
So I re found that website and pounded out a tool bar with all the best links for OFP2.
It contains all the links to the OFP2 Group pages, A news Ticker, two hotlinks to OFP2.org and the Main Forums. As well as all the core OFP2 pages including IRC, Flickr, Tube the news feed. Also has a RSS feed viewer for the MessHall, OFP2.org and the General. It provides all the links I use day to day and I presume other people use.
This is just another way for me to help you get the most out of OFP2, so make the most of it. I’m going to keep track of downloads at http://operationflashpoint2.org and make adjustments to this tool bar over time.
One of the things I hope to add is if OFP2: DR supports join server via link – the community servers will be launch able via this toolbar. As well as a link to server information. So you can keep tabs on the servers while doing other things like searching the forums.

Possible MultiCore Support
Thanks to our friends at http://Operationflashpoint2.info we have obtained information regarding possible multiCore support. Taken from a German hardware magazine this article claims that Operation Flashpoint 2 will have multiCore support up to 4 cores. It is unknown where they have received there information from, but one would presume as a published article it’s not pure speculation. Also in the article is some technical information which is already known and a outdated link to ARMA2’s homepage.

New Sion E3 interview with Gaming Shogun.
Found by new member JHalpert, we now have new footage of Sion doing a interview across a tv monitor. It is 6:04 min long – It opens with rehammering “We are aiming for realism”. Sion mentions it that OFP1 was a “Hardcore military sim” and that they tried to make it similar, but they also note they have made it “Accessible”.
There is a worrying tone of “we attempted realism” suggesting that not archived but nerfed for console usage. Sion goes over the same information we know but hints on the gameplay feel. Sion speaks of LUA and modding lightly from a long term gaming perspective, but nothing more other then CM noting it’s interest in it.
#Update#
Sion also notes of a Fall 09 release date. (This used to say Q4 09) I miss heard the British accent to say four oh nine. Majority vote has concluded it was a error and was Fall 09. Sorry for that
It is solid HD footage, however like the other videos you can see some bugs in it. It’s very similar to the other stock E3 Footage seen today (as thats most likely what is playing in the background).
The most important release of information however is that they have finally confirmed current alpha status in video media. With the game feature complete the coming months will be OFP:DR’s devs multiplying the world objects and features from the current single object already made. The game from this point should expand rapidly.
Sion notes a major release of multiplayer numbers is coming shortly.

Possible Front and Back seating arrangments?
If you look carefully in this picture provided by RedD you can see that seating arrangements for the front and rear of the vehicle is different. In the front, like in the real vehicle, it can hold 4 in the cab. In the rear it holds 16. Previous to OFP:DR in ARMA and OFP1 both front and back where filled in order by who entered first.
This finding looks interesting as it may lead to the moddablity of different ‘transport zones‘. With this I presume you could zone left/right side of a ship, or “Cargo, front, back ” of a large plane. Perhaps this could be even exstended to zoning drop pods in a giant mech, rather then say “Hop in back” – you could say “Hop in Pod1″. Regardless of sheer arcade nature of that picture, I think this is worth while noting as this opens a few doors and at the very least gets the mind going about the possibilities of OFP:DR.

Both video’s came as a bit of a surprise. The First French video shows 5 full minutes of footage. The soldiers also speak with a little accent. In the special build mission, the squad is going to blow up a radar station, on a smaller island near the coast of Skira Island.

Please note that the game-specific/custom forum skins will be re-introduced on Tuesday, 20th January, 2009 – until then, the standard Codemasters skin will be available.
Codemasters thanks you for your patience during the downtime and looks forward to welcoming you back to the shiny new forums later on Monday!

New hands-on information coming out shortly!
A heads up:
For the people that missed the other nights IRC chat with Helios, pay attention to the forums early next week. We are expecting a release of hands on information from Helios.
If you don’t want to miss information like this, events on IRC or can’t view the forums daily, remember there is a e-mail service where you can get information like this delivered as it happens to your mail box. Check it out.
Reminder: For the people who were on IRC during the event and on the mailing list – remember the IRC code. If you need a refresher on the code please private message me. The code is lifted as soon as Helios posts his information. I expect similar information to what was said on IRC. I presume we may see it better constructed and possibly expanded. So there is still hope of new information.

I would like to thank everyone whom came out, and remind everyone to remember the IRC Code!
