Big update inbound, and many thanks to the OFP: DR sound team for taking the time to write these behind the scenes expose’s!

Naturally vehicles take a big part in OFP : DR so it was important to us to make them sound as true to life as we could. Where better to start than to go to the USMC and borrow some tanks then?

Several phone calls to the USMC Public Affairs Office later and we had a visit out to 29 Palms Range. Sadly we didn’t get to go on this trip and instead hired the very capable On Your Mark Music Productions field recording crew. Who were strangely more than a little keen to spend a week in the desert surrounded by some of the best military hardware available.

I hope that you enjoy the sounds of vehicles in OFP: DR, we spent a lot of time tracking down these sounds and recreating them in game. It was very important to us to get a an authentic sound to our vehicles that few games truly capture. The M1A1 Abrams used by the USMC has a unique sound due to its propulsion system.

Finally we have to give a much deserved thanks to these people, because without On Your Mark Music and the USMC we would have struggled to get anywhere near the same quality of vehicle audio for OFP: DR

After 6 pages of commentary and some good comments, Helios provided a response.

Hi everyone,

I didn’t want to post regarding this issue until I had some firm news to give you, and in this case I think you’ll find it’s all good.

The original Type 07 BDU woodland camo that you’ve seen in some of the screenshots is a proper PLA Army uniform (not a Police uniform, though the Armed Police may well also use it) but was in this case misassigned. After raising your concerns in this thread to the devs we’ve done some research and discovered that the BDU woodland camo is only used in dense brush or jungle environments which are not typical of Skira. To rectify this, we’ve now changed the camo type of the uniform to the standard and far more widespread urban variety, which is what would be used in the semi-urban landscape of an island such as Skira.

The devs have kindly generated an image in MAX of what the new PLA BDU camo pattern will look like in the game and I’ve posted this for you below. However, please bear in mind that this image is taken under default lighting conditions so it may appear a little dark. In-game we guarantee that it will be lighter and a perfect match to the real thing.

Thanks for all your feedback, as you can see from the above we really do take it on board and act on it when necessary.

Also please be aware that as this change is only being made now you may still see the old style PLA BDU woodland camo in some upcoming screenshots, but rest assured that it will be correct in the final game.
