As above I do believe some apologising is needed as we havn’t made the time recently to update this website. But now that I (Tyro) have awoke from my flashpoint enduced coma I believe that I now have an obligation to start updating this site again.

So starting from today I will be updating to current + more based on release from codemasters themselves.

I must say, huge difference going from FailPress 2.x-somthing to FailPress 2.8.3, It’s all spiffy and clean. It’s been a long time comming as I’ve been putting off the upgrade. I wanted to wait until I could trust my backup making skills. Now that I figured out how to make nice clean full backups (thank you Turkish spam bots), I got the gonads to start installing. The first thing after making a backup, WordPress asks you to do, is to start deleting files. To me deleting anything via permanent never-getting-back FTP is never a good thing, all you need to do is miss read one thing. After rereading it like it was gold, I made the commit, announced my work to IRC and watched in horror as the files disappear into the abyss.

With a then file transfer and a click of a button. I was shown a new Failpress of a clean cut. So far I must say I like the fact everything has been put away and is not bulky and in your face all the time, as in previous builds. It seems like It’s going to take longer to write a message now but the content management end of things looks alot better now. So expect the site to get more and more refined.

Anyways I just wanted to let you know what happened. Some people already noticed the font looks a little nicer. You might also notice some SEO features, breadcrumbs for ‘pages’ and other little ‘addons’ to make the website more engaging and useful.

Tomorrow I will be adding fixing up posts, adding tags, sorting and updating the sites look and feel some more. It’s been my goal on top of accessibility to try to get this site improved for searching and google. This website gets most of it hits from direct links. Meaning fans and community supporters clicking a bookmark or a untraceable link with no referral to this site. We get very little support from google or other search engines. We are powered nearly 100% on community steam. Which only leads me to wonder what will happen with the combination of more community advertisement (putting links on other sites) and google finally waking up to this great site. I think it will spell great success (and higher bills ) for this site and the OFP:DR community who will reap the rewards.

As always I welcome you to post comments about what you see and hear, spread links far and use the community sites like Flickr and this site when passing out images and news. Helping to promote community links allows the community as a whole to gain strength and archive greater things.

The Vandals Strike Again!

First I have added in TweetMeme a one shot click Twitter replier. All you need to do is click and off it goes to your twitter. Great for getting the word out quickly.

You can also use the Share This button at the bottom of all posts to Tweet, Digg or send to any social site you may be on. This however makes it quicker and faster for fans that might be twitter users. Twitter is used by CM and it’s getting popular, so I might as well make it convenient. I plan on using twitter to keep track of my personal fans and to alert followers of events like when my Live Stream is online or I just sent a e-mail.

I’ve also added a block in the right side for stats. I want to be able to show you, the fans directly the health of the website. I want you to be able to see the increase in visitors and rankings as a direct result of your work posting on social sites and other gamesites about OperationFlashpoint2.org. We are now being tracked by a few sites including Quantcast.

I have put more work into my Live Feed. The Pol and Cat show (for anyone thats following what I’m doing) with some tweaking is now higher quality then ever before. I still need to work out if I can get the default resolution higher.

One last thing. you might have noticed on the left of OperationFlashpoint2.org I have added the a feedback box. This system provided by Get Satisfaction, allows you to posts Ideas, problems, questions and praise for all to see and comment on. You know I’m always looking for comments and feedback on how I can make this site better for you as fans. Rather then to post it in every thread, I hope this will allow you another way to get in contact and get your voice heard on issues. We want to know whats working and what is not! (Pehaps some praise as well ). This system allows everyone to get in on the action, so if you like helping people – feel free to tackle some of the questions people have posted and help them out.

I love it when things just come together. You go in expecting 60% Greatness and you come out with 80%. Woot!

After 1500 lines and 80kb of “Deny from”’s later. I have stopped the Turkish Telecom provider Turk Telekom and it’s league of spam riddled clients. As such anyone from Turkey and more so Turkish Telecom provider Turk Telekom will no longer be able to view this website. As well any major known spam ring has been banned as well, as it is possible my host has failed to ban them.

There might be a little bit more lag then normal as a 80kb file is checked every time a page is loaded. However now we can sleep knowing the spammers (or at least this bunch are dead). I would like to Thank Fin for helping out on IRC and the Heroes group and Hi3rling for moral support.

We are still incurring loss to our bandwith, I have opened communciation with my providers to perhaps get them stopped at a server level.

Due to a security leak this website has had it’s bandwidth burned by Turkish Spammers. There is a good chance the website will go offline in the next 2 days. If this happens it may be till the 20th or the 31st until it flips over. I am currently in communications with my webhosting to see if somthing can be done about this issue, without incurring a large unneeded cost.

This downtime will not affect any of the off site groups, flickr, or the toolbar. The data on this website will remain, access will be restricted and the site will display a “bandwidth exceeded” message.

For uninterrupted service please join the mailing list. Daily RSS e-mails sent though the mailing list will not recive any new content as they draw from this website.

I am working to correct this issue with my limited webskills. I have identified the problem as the Fansite Topsite listing with all 2.2 gigs of dammage done from middle yesterday to this morning.

I’m trying out a system that will allow clans though a ad system, to advertise them selfs while being advertised on other websites. My aim is to create a mutual visibility system by tweaking a ad system. I am testing it out as of today, and are looking for submissions of clan banners of size (486 x 60) Static no .gifs. As well as first adopters to test how how this product will work. The first test run will go a week and if successful will expand to a larger system.

Below is a code for a “Zone”, banners will be directed to this zone based on criteria such as “allotted hits per day”, “importance”, “Has this been seen in the last 30mins?”, “How many times has this user seen this ad today?” – ect. These values will be tweaked on the amount of submissions to this test, as well, they will be changed as the system grows in users.

These zones from time to time will display important new websites and events so the visibility is shared with fansites and community growth. It’s also my aim to cycle this system into the ad rotation on the high visibility websites of OFP2.info and [url]http://operationflashpoint2.org[/url] as well as any fansite that cares about the community.

The make a follow up post with the following information:

• A link to one of the pages hosting the image
• A link to a image to be used to advertise
• Name of your organization
• A link to the page you want to ad to take the user when clicked.

Pending this system works as expected, I will reward sites that provide more visibility to the community then sites that don’t. It’s only fair I reward sites that put more effort and importance into the communitys wellbeing. I’ll reward by providing more importance to the advertisement (Shows more often), or by providing more ‘visible shows’ per in a day (Shows more times a day). What I’ll do will depend on how much this service is used.

As our continual commitment to OFP2 growth we believe in accessibility. For mobile users we already have a e-mail alert system called the Community News Feed but we wished to take it a step further. In the future it is our aim to also link in though RSS the other major fan sites that support community development so that you may view (or at least preview) the latest news from all over the OFP2 Community Network. We hope to make good strides such as mobile reporting, audio and media feeds and video playable for mobile devices.

With a little work perhaps even provide a low-fi version of this website for with limited or poor connections. Keeping in mind the diversity of the Operation Flashpoint community we have members from cottages, farmlands, and remote rural environments as well as countries with poor or limited Internet infrastructure.

You have hit the end of the news posts for OperationFlashpoint2.org.

OperationFlashpoint2.org as you see it – is a front end for promoting community events, services, alerts, and announcements not to mention to provide a focal point for “Heroes” that wish to help further develop their community.

The community, previous to this front end, has been through several website iterations and which has lead to the deleting of some of the older news posts. There has however been a constant community service during that time that maintains to this date a fast and detailed record of OFP2 and Community News from Tue Aug 19 12:11 EDT 2008. You can view for your self the archives here, the archives are currently 41 messages big as of Dec 19th 2008.
